The Chair Degree for the presiding Officer of a Council of the Allied Masonic Degrees of the United States of America. The Degree is usually conferred on the newly elected Sovereign Master by the Council’s Past Sovereign Masters at the close of a Council meeting after the Sovereign Master’s election, though some Councils have a separate, formal installation. The Degree relates part of the Solomonic legend concerning the Queen of Sheba and members of the Craft.
The jewel of an Installed Sovereign Master of a Council is suspended from the neck on a kelly green ribbon, or suspended from a white ribbon as a breast jewel. No other ornamentation should appear on the ribbon. The jewel should depict the symbol of the Allied Masonic Degrees in gold colored metal, with the addition of a quadrant at the bottom of the compass. No laurels should surround the symbol. Individual portions of the jewel may use colors to highlight specific details, such as green in the central triangle, or the jewels in the crown.
The apron of a Past Sovereign Master of a Council should be of a similar style to a member’s apron, but with the addition of a 1-inch border of gold / yellow around the outer edge and flap. The flap should be triangular in shape and not rounded. The symbol of the Allied Masonic Degrees may appear on the flap. No laurels should surround the symbol. There should not be any fringe or additional ornamentation. The apron may fasten with a belt or rope, but the tassels should not be visible.
